55,42,053 people have been damaged in 32 of the state's 36 districts, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA). The majority of displaced individuals are cramped together in camps or on improvised boats, with minimal access to food and other necessities. For children, who suffer from malnutrition as well, health and hygiene have been top priorities.
While Assam experiences flooding practically annually, the severity we are witnessing right now is beyond anything we have seen in a long time. Darrang has been affected by floods in less than a month; things are growing worse! The district's more than 100 villages are in distress. At midnight, thousands of people are being forced to abandon their homes; they have sought sanctuary in school facilities, but their families lack food. There has been a tremendous loss of property as well - the condition is dire and people are in urgent need of support.
